Published Work – Gorgeous Freaks Magazine

We were recently approached by alternative model – Frankie Lou to collaborate on a magazine cover shoot for alternative fashion magazine Gorgeous Freaks. We’re always up for a challenge and even though this was a little outside my usual comfort zone I thought this would be a great chance to try out some new ideas and maybe get some exposure through the magazine.

There was no real theme for the shoot so we had a chat about possible setups and looks and worked out three separate sets with the make-up artist (the fantastic Bambii Riiot). For the final set I went out on the scrounge and managed to borrow a motorbike from one of our neighbors and brought it into the studio!

Here are the tearsheets from the magazine that was published this month:

Professional Property Photography – Staffordshire Windmill

We were recently contacted by AirBNB (whom we have worked with on a number of occasions previously) for a very special project to provide commercial photography for an amazing B&B location. AirBNB are a company that really value professional imagery and have been able to monitor the uplift of having professional photographs advertising rental properties and B&B businesses through their vast network of hosts and customers.

This particular B&B (hosted by the really friendly Kate & Chris) is located in a converted windmill deep in the countryside of rural Staffordshire. With fantastic views, unique architecture and stunning character, this property was a pleasure to photograph. The unusual shape of some of the rooms required some unorthodox shooting positions but overall the shoot was a realy enjoyable one (even with all those stairs!).

Here are some of the images we captured on the project:

For more images and information about staying at the windmill please head over to Kate & Chris’ page on AirBNB. Commercial Photography – Product Shoot for Fancy that Clothing

Commercial photography includes a vast range of types of photography and during this recent shoot we had to combine the workflow and attention to detail of a product shoot with the styling of a fashion shoot.  ‘Fancy That Clothing’ is an online clothing retailer who approached us to provide commercial photography services to help promote their products across various online platforms.  They were looking for a consistent way to show their vast range of clothing in a clear way to potential customers.

In addition to their own website they also sell clothing on third party sites which have fairly strict guidelines around how these kinds of product shots can look and so we had to adhere to a fairly technical brief (which is fairly common with product photography but not so much with fashion photography).  Prior to the shoot we discussed requirements and started planning including sourcing a model.  After a very popular casting (we had over 60 applicants!) the client decided to go with local model Anna Tyburska (you may recognise Anna from a portfolio shoot we did earlier in the year).  Due to the high volume of clothing items we needed to get through I was conscious to try and get as much prepared as possible and so had everything set-up in the cloverleaf images studio the day before the shoot.

The shoot itself went really well and we were able to get through the dresses much quicker than we had expected due to Anna working like a star and the all the prep really paying off.  The client was really pleased with the results and has already uploaded the shots to their online stores.  Here are a few examples of some of the product shots:

As we had made such good time with the main shoot we decided to have a bit of ‘creative playtime’ and produce some editorial style commercial photography shots.  We wanted to make a big switch from the clinical look of the product photography shots  and so we set up a low key set and spent some time trying to get some different looks.  Here are some of the ‘bonus shots’ we got at the end of the shoot:

Commercial Photography – Jim Baker Guitar

Jim Baker is a guitar teacher based in Chester and he approached cloverleaf images photography studio in regards to creating some original portrait images for him to use to promote his guitar tuition business.  He was looking for a simple but striking portrait photo of him playing the guitar.  After some discussions around what would work best we agreed on a low key portrait using really stripped back lighting to create a unique image of Jim while highlighting his guitar.

I prepped the studio and lighting before the shoot so it was a relatively quick process to get the shots, we just needed to make small tweaks to Jim’s position so that he and the guitar caught the light in the right way.  Once we had the shot we wanted we decided to do some experimentation with some extra lights and a smoke machine to create a more atmospheric look.

We were both really pleased with how the shots turned out and I’m looking forward to experimenting a little more with this kind of lighting.
